Product Description

Product Description

A serial killer stalks young musicians in Helsinki. Why does he appear to associate each attack with a symphony of the great Finnish composer, Jean Sibelius? This disturbing exploration of sexual obsession culminates in a compelling, suspenseful denouement.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intriguing Murder Mystery against a musical background in Helsinki, 21 Jan 2007
By H. Martin (Wiltshire, England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I thorougly enjoyed this absorbing novel which brought back to me the atmosphere of Helsinki which I love. As a Sibelius fan who enjoys crime novels, and Finland it was a real treat to discover this gem which combined so many subjects which are important to me. I don't have much time for reading these days so am picky about what I do peruse, and found that I had to make time to finish the book. The characters were real to me, so much so that I wanted to know what happened to Miranda next.
This is a murser mystery with "extras", so buy, read and enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Culture and Crime with a Finnish twist!, 5 Aug 2007

I came across this book ealrier this year and had it on my list to read! I have now done that and found it to be an excellent murder mystery, and also found the details about Jean Sibelius as stimulating as the elements of the novel dealing with the serial killer!

For those who know the city, it gives a wonderful tour of many different parts of the city - and for those who have yet to visit, it does give an excellent range of places to visit for culture and a drink!

Read and enjoy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Music and Murder!, 13 Mar 2007
By Ada (Worcestershire) - See all my reviews
In this novel, I am not sure if it is the haunting refrains that sets the pulse racing or the shadow of death that lingers across its pages. I've often trudged softly across snow-clad Sibelius Park, but now whenever I do, I'll be looking again, to see if the footprints I leave are joined by those of another.

A masterfully conducted tour, both of the seven symphonies of Sibelius and of the intricacies of the human psyche. Simon Boswell has crafted a mystery so fine, that Helsinki in some ways its chief protagonist, though devastated by serial murders, could be recreated again from the pages of this work.

An unusual blend of the great and grisly aspects of civilisation, this book is a must read and I cannot recommend it more.

1.0 out of 5 stars The worst book I have ever read
This is so badly written it isn't even amusing. The depictions of Helsinki are lacklustre in the extreme (it could be Croydon), the dialogue is excrutiating and the musical... Read more

Simon Boswell's new novel is a fantastic exeption among nowdays rather boring genre of detective stories. Read more
