Product Description

<p><i>Beginning Python: From Novice to Professional</i> is the most comprehensive book on the Python ever written. Based on <i>Practical Python</i>, this newly revised book is both an introduction and practical reference for a swath of Python-related programming topics, including addressing language internals, database integration, network programming, and web services. Advanced topics, such as extending Python and packaging/distributing Python applications, are also covered.</p> <p>Ten different projects illustrate the concepts introduced in the book. You will learn how to create a P2P file-sharing application and a web-based bulletin board, and how to remotely edit web-based documents and create games. Author Magnus Lie Hetland is an authority on Python and previously authored <i>Practical Python</i>. He also authored the popular online guide, Instant Python Hacking, on which both books are based.</p>

5.0 out of 5 stars Beginning Python - great for Python newbies and above, 12 Oct 2006
By I. M. Ozsvald "Ian at ShowMeDo.com" (Sussex, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Initially I recommended Beginning Python to a colleague who was just starting out with Python programming (he'd been coding for 10 years with various Basics before).

Since he bought it, I've found on a few occasions that I refer to it too...but it is tricky getting it off of him as he hates to lose sight of it! I've been Python-coding for almost 5 years (and have a set of reference books) and coding in C++ before for 10 years - yet still this book is useful to me and a beginner alike.

I strongly recommend this if you're starting out or looking to improve your Python coding. The style is clear, the material accurate, the worked-examples show you how to solve real world problems and there's plenty of discussion on why you should and shouldn't do things.

In short - I think you'd benefit from this book if you need to learn about Python.

5.0 out of 5 stars Get this book., 4 Aug 2007
This is the PERFECT book to start python programming. It assumes no previous programming knowledge but still manages not to patronize or over-simplify.

The book covers all of the basics of python programming first and then has several chapters, each covering one advanced topic, such as GUI building, graphical report generation, web programming, etc.

Also has plenty of references to Monty Python =)

Highly recommended.
