This is the first Ridley Pearson book that I have read, and it won't be the last! I recently read 'The Lineup' edited by Otto Penzler, a collection of articles by contemporary crime writers about their lead characters, and Ridley Pearson's article about Lou Boldt intrigued me. This is the start of the Lou Boldt series (I believe there are now 9-10 in total) and it's a real page-turner. Certain aspects have dated -there's no mention of DNA evidence, for example- but that's more to do with how far the science of detection has advanced rather than any flaws in the story or writing. The plot is great but the characters are also well rounded and seem like real people, not just typical crime stereotypes. I've already ordered the next in the series.

The first (of five books) of Ridley Pearson I have read and by far his best. The first book in the Lou Boldt serie. A crime story about a serial killer and a sergeant who tries to catch him. Keeps you turning pages until the end.
