Manic by Midnight will keep your interest as the author Faye Shannon describes a manic episode which all but ends her life as she knows it. Her stable marriage, family life, and career as a social worker are turned upside down by this medical illness.

The author provides a glimpse into the interworkings of mania and delusions that I have never seen elsewhere. Her description of depression is very compelling.

The honesty and insightfulness of the author are incredible. Her childhood in poverty with a depressed mother and mentally ill father are as engaging and informative as is her account of her own struggle with manic depression.

When I finished the book I had a much better understanding of bipolar disorder. Also, my sensitivity to mental illnesses in general was heightened.

Faye Shannon bares her soul and provides a gift in the process for anyone (family member of or patient) suffering from the devestating effects of mental illness. Manic by Midnight is for anyone who needs encouragement and a healthy dose of hope blended with reality.

Having read many autobiographies from bipolar individuals, this one was by far the best. It was the most sincere and inspiring. The author is such a fighter from the word go and refuses to give up even when all seems lost. I strongly recommend the book. Parts of it will stay with you long after the last page.
