Out of all the published books in the epic Dark Ages novel series, Brujah may best capture the contrasting venom and righteousness that vampire politics can entail. Our scene is the Parisian night of 1223, when ancient vampires move their inferiors over a chessboard, caring not a whit for the lives of others. For too long the crime of murder has gone unpunished and infidelities have festered. It will not be long before all of France is in chaos if this continues. A vampiric diplomat named Veronique d'Orleans is duty-bound to bring about a peaceful resolution, but is she the player or the peice? She must be prepared to go through hell to find out.

This a delightfully gritty venture though hope, corruption, instability and rage. Much transpires, but Myranda Kalis (author) never loses her focus.
