Product Description
Jim Slater is one of the foremost stockmarket investment experts of our time. His chief strengths are his uncanny ability to identify undervalued companies and his farsighted reading of the market trends. In this volume, Jim Slater makes available to the investor - whether the owner of only a few shares or an experienced investment manager with a large portfolio - the secret of his success. Central to his strategy is "The Zulu Principle", the benefits of homing in on a relatively narrow area. Deftly blending anecdote and analysis, Jim Slater gives valuable selective criteria for buying dynamic growth shares, turnarounds, cyclicals, shells and leading shares. He covers many other vitally relevant aspects of investment such as creative accounting, portfolio management, overseas markets and the investor's relationship with their broker. From "The Zulu Principle" you can learn exactly when to buy shares and, even more important, when to see - in essence, how to make "extraordinary profits from ordinary shares".

4.0 out of 5 stars Spear a decent share with the Zulu Principle, 19 April 2001
As a newcomer to the world of equity investing I was looking for ways of picking shares to make me money. This was driven by my first efforts at picking shares, which contained more dogs than Battersea. As I was reading round the subject of shares the name Jim Slater came up time and again as a well respected, knowledgable and successful dealer in shares and his book "The Zulu Principle" was recommended in a number of places.

Being the cyncial type I was relucant to believe the hype. However Jim Slater sets out a simple, yet effective way of selecting ordinary equities that will produce extraordinary results. He outlines a system that give a good framework to come up with quality shares, makes the maths involved looking at the finacial figures easy and has a good track record.

My only criticisms are it seems a little dated now (his examples are up to ten years old) and the book will not pick the winners for you! An excellent book to give would-be investors a method for sorting shares.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good manual for good investing, 3 Jan 2003
By Miguel Couto (Lisbon, Portugal) - See all my reviews
I see this book as a manual for good investing. Besides explaining in understandable words some of the financial jargon for the beginners, Jim Slater states clearly what he thinks are the key variables and ratios to keep an eye on.
His explanation of how these figures work together and correctly evaluate a growth company is very convincing.
One of the great books for good investing, without any doubt.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bursting at the seams with insight : Jim's Magnum Opus., 1 April 2004
By A Customer
In my view,'The Zulu Princple' is Jim's most encompassing, informative and enduring work - indeed,as far as fundamentally inclined stockmarket books go,there are few i know of on either side of the atlantic with anywhere near as much to offer.

I dont agree with all he says, most notably his personal opinions on charting, but overall, the insight he gives on sectors,earnings-power,management and so forth, mean the only nutshell word i can find that sums the book up adequately,is this : excellent.

In fact, what 'Technical Analysis of Stock Trends'(Edwards/Magee) is to technicals (i.e.teaching you WHEN to buy),the 'Zulu Principle' is to fundamentals (i.e.teaching you WHAT to buy) - enough said !!
