Despite being an 'insight' guide, this books offers a very limited insight into the true wildlife of the Amazon. This is certainly not a field guide, as it pictures very few species of fauna and flora. Instead, it provides an introduction to the region, the type of wildlife that might be encountered, and an idea of which areas may offer what sightings. This book would be good for someone planning a holiday to the Amazon who has little to no experience of the area. However, I was hoping for a guide that I could take on an extended trip which could be used to identify much of the diverse wildlife that I am likely to encounter; it certainly is not adequate for this purpose. It wastes space with large glossy photos, but has very few pictures of most of the species that it describes.
