Product Description

Product Description

The Parting Glass is an inviting ramble through forty-three traditional pubs in the cities and countryside of Ireland. Some are historic taverns, others are more contemporary, but all convey the timeless feel and the flavour of the country. Roth's glowing, intimate photographs are accompanied by narratives of the places and their patrons by columnist Eileen McNamara, as well as a sprinkling of quotations.

About the Author

Eric Roth has travelled the world during more than 30 years of commercial photography. Irish pubs are a favorite subject because of their warmth and rich personality. Eric works on many assignments for interior design books and magazines. He regularly shoots assignments for magazines such as "Elle Decor", "House Beautiful", "HOME", "Coastal Living", "Yankee", "The Boston Sunday Globe Magazine", "Inspired Home", "Old House Interiors", "Cape Cod Home", and "Boston Magazine". He is also currently at work on books about the Turkish baths of Istanbul, antique shops, Boston interiors and U.S. Route One. Eileen McNamara is a Pulitzer-Prize winning columnist for The Boston Globe. She is the granddaughter of four Irish men and women who immigrated to Boston as young adults - the McNamaras of County Clare and the Dohertys of County Donegal. She lives outside Boston with her husband, Boston Globe sportswriter Peter May and their three children.

5.0 out of 5 stars A book that is truly timeless in its Imagery and words., 18 April 2006
By Russ Mezikofsky (Boston, MA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
From the first image to the last this book shows the true warmth and beauty of the traditional pubs of Ireland. Eric Roth and Eileen McNamara have created a timeless masterpiece with this book. Eric's warm inviting painterly pictures make me want to be sitting at one of these pubs enjoying a nice pint of Guinness. Eileen's eloquence with descriptions exemplifies the feeling of the inviting people that surround these watering holes. I will cherish this book and pass it on to my family as a tradition much like the families in Ireland did with the Traditional Pubs that they have grown to love.
