Manufacturer's Description
Get ready for the next evolution of openSUSE! Introducing openSUSE 11.1, the next version of the world's most usable Linux.
Some of the new features include an improved KDE desktop experience, better synchronization with the iPod and the new Android G1 phone with an updated Banshee Media Player, and many other improvement and refinements in the openSUSE desktop. Also included are software updates including GNOME 2.24.1, KDE 4.1.3, OpenOffice.org 3.0, and Firefox 3.0.4 and more.
Better administration features
openSUSE 11.1 features more improvements to YaST, openSUSE's famous system administration and installation suite. The installer has an improved partitioner, making it easier for new users to make changes to their hard drive's setup if required, and giving advanced users more control over their partition setup. An update repository is now automatically set up, so the fun can start even faster with openSUSE. Plus, now openSUSE will prompt to help Linux device driver developers know how popular devices are by requesting that you send your hardware profile to the Smolt project, completely anonymously. It's one click to help the Linux community. Finally, YaST in the GNOME desktop has an aesthetic overhaul, giving more information about what screens are asking you to do and better match the look of the desktop.
More features, more fun!
openSUSE 11.1 premieres new features to both music players. Banshee, the music and movie player in the GNOME desktop, now features enhanced synchronization to mobile devices, including the T-Mobile G1 phone running Google's Android! Also included are a slicker look for the Now Playing window. For KDE users, the groundbreaking new version of Amarok is included.
One fun new program is Cheese, a webcam studio app that lets you take pictures and videos of your friends and apply neat effects to them.
Getting work don
OpenOffice 3
But when you need to put away those fun apps and get some work done, openSUSE 11.1 has you covered with OpenOffice 3.0 Novell Edition, the newest version of the popular office suite. Included are a word processor, presentation creator, spreadsheet creator, and more. Some of the new things in OpenOffice 3.0 includes spreadsheet collaboration, the ability to edit multiple pages in the word processor, and improved notes in the word processor. With openSUSE, OpenOffice is able to read and write all Microsoft Office files, including those made by Office 2007.
Another new app is Tasque. With Tasque, you can easily add and manage your to-do list, and look good while doing it. In addition, Tasque can synchronize with Remember the Milk, a popular online to-do manager, or Evolution's task list, so no matter where you are or what you use, moving to and using Tasque is an easy procedure.
There are over 200 new features in openSUSE 11.1, and that's only including features that are unique to us!
