Product Description

Product Description
Over the course of several generations, the once mighty empire known as the United Republics of The Red Star slaughtered millions of it's own people by the order of a single man. The man was their leader, Imbohl, a mighty sorcerer whose insanity turned his people's Utopian dreams into a nightmarish scheme driven by the desire to create his own immortality. Haunted by the ghosts of their nation's tragic past, the Heroes of the Red Star discover the true nature of their nation's struggle, abandon their duties as soldiers of the Red Fleet, and embark upon a quest to liberate their people from Imbohl's dark legacy. The "Battle of Kar Dathra's Gate" is a fictionalization of the 1979 Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. This unapologetic romantic saga utilizing the same 3-D modeling technology as today's best selling video games and animated features while heralding the dawn of a new era in visual storytelling.

4.0 out of 5 stars excellent artwork, but over-simplified story, 31 Oct 2001
By A Customer
I first came across this book in an article about the technical side of producing the artwork (a mixture of hand-drawing and 3D-rendering) and was encouraged to buy it. A collection of several comics, the action takes place in a world not quite like ours; it's sci-fi, but without the usual techno-rubbish and embued with a deep sense of spiritualism that is of the old-fashioned, scare-you-rigid kind. The artwork is well thought through and very impressive, a very long way from some of the awful stuff that gets published. I was pleasantly surprised by the story as well; I'm a sucker for decent narrative and this first book will suit anyone who likes a pretty good love story, but this is where my complaint comes in. The story, I feel, has become somewhat subseded to the 'look' of the book; we don't really get to see what the characters are thinking beyond the superficial, as though the detail of story has been cut out because of the natural length of the individual comic books. Maybe this is just beginners nerves, however, because it does get better towards the end.
However, don't let this spoil your enjoyment, I think that, although the story has been done before, this is an ambitious foray and deserves applause. I'm looking forward to the second one.

2.0 out of 5 stars hard work is not enough, 8 Oct 2004
One can easyly notice that the creators put a lot of effort into this object, however, it didn't came as good as I expected. I am a comic book colector (with a quite ecletic collection, I should say), and admiting that I don't know if the creators of this book have other works, it sure seems that this is their first. It has no credible sequential narrative matching the illustration, comic art should be sequential, not "per se". The story is interesting, but, reading it now after the Beslan attack on the russian children, it might be considered tasteless, 'cos of the glorification of the "little country that's opressed by URRS". Conclusion: over-"created" by the creators themselves. 2 *'s for the effort.
