Following on from her confrontation with Ken Irons, Sara is again thrust back into the seedy underworld of New York. This volume comprises of several of her adventures which starts with a glimpse into the past of the witchblade by showing Sara the battles of one of her predecessors. Followed by her first meeting with Jackie Estacado, the unmasking of the microwave murderer and an adventure down in steamy Brazil.

This book is full of great art and dialogue, but does feel at time as a bit of a filler. While giving small views of Ken Irons' plan for the witchblade and his mysterious past, no reason is given here for his obsession or why he seemed to manipulate things so that Sara got it. Only the microwave murderer story is settled to some degree, while others have to wait for future volumes. For instance her next confrontation with Estacado occurs just after her Brazil trip.

But this does not detract from a great set of stories which help you to get to know Detective Sara Pezini better and hint at the tumultuos battles she has yet to face.
