4.0 out of 5 stars Make fabulous art - just smaller!, 21 Feb 2007
I like this book. It is colourful and attractive and it contains the promised step-by-step instructions for completing cards using different techniques. In many ways, it's a 5 star book - if you like ATCs, or think you might like to have a go, there is lots here. However, if you are unfamiliar with these delightful little pieces of art, you could be forgiven for thinking it was compulsory for them to be in this style!
I gave the book 4 stars, not because I didn't like it, but because it has a (very) few limitations. It is an American book, and many of the techniques call for products that are unfamiliar to me, and I have no idea where to get them. The resources list includes company websites, but no stockists, and no specific international information whatever. This probably isn't as unhelpful as it appears, as stockists come and go. The sites suggested for swapping online are all on Yahoo. Again, nothing wrong with that, it just seems a little limited.
I'm keen to get working, and to do a little online research to try and find out if I can get liquid watercolours and what on earth Nevr-dull might be, but something else I would have liked is some suggestions of how to develop one's own design processes, rather than just trying to reproduce the cards shown.
I would recommend this book to you wholeheartedly if you are attracted by the picture - in this case, you probably can judge a book by its cover!

5.0 out of 5 stars A real treasure!, 23 Jul 2007
By A reader (London, England) - See all my reviews
I really love this book both for the number and range of techniques it shares and for the inspiring ATCs within. Many of the techniques shown (there are over 25 different ones demonstrated) are versatile and lend themselves to altered art in general which I found to be very useful. This is a great book, packed with ideas and I'd recommend it to anyone interested in creating ATCs (whether you're just starting out or have been creating ATCs for years). Personally, one of the things I found most useful about the book was the range of styles (I note in saying this that I'm at odds with the last reviewer!). I also enjoyed experimenting with different mediums. This is definitely one of my favourite books - I refer to it often when I'm making ATCs. If you're only going to buy one ATC book, buy this one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic, inspirational Book, 6 Jul 2008

(REAL NAME)
Beautiful, inspirational book that not only shows you a number of techniques but also provides many variations in the form of photographs. I love the style as it is one that has not yet been played with to it's full potential here in the UK. These techniques would also be great for transfering onto Altered Art projects. I highly recommend it for all ATC lovers but also to those who wish to take their crafting to another level
