Similar to the pencil version of this novel, I'd recommend getting the more advanced version "How to draw lifelike potraits in colored pencil from photographs", as it contains about the same, yet is more in depth and explains more details. However, if you're getting it for a child, this is probably the better option. Or, if you aren't that serious about drawing, it will still help you improve a lot, yet not cost as much time.

Lee Hammond has produced a number of 'how to' books. All are excellent. Easy to understand, work broken into stages. Good for new and experienced artists
