Product Description

Synopsis
Shootfighting is a brutal hybrid fighting system that combines real wrestling moves with Eastern martial arts such as judo, karate and Muay Thai kickboxing. Bart Vale created the term Shootfighting to describe the sport because old-time wrestlers used the word 'shoot' to refer to the real thing -- no scripts, no fake holds, no mercy. Today, the International Shootfighting Association (ISFA) created by Vale, Masami Soranaka and Yoshiaki Fujiwara has affiliated gyms and martial arts schools around the world. In this book, Vale takes you through the history of the sport, the training methods that will get you in peak shape and the brutal kicking, punching, takedown and submission-hold techniques that will give you the winning edge in all aspects of unarmed combat.

1.0 out of 5 stars Vale fails to impress, 9 Nov 2003
The most credit I can give Bart Vale is that he was smart enough to copyright the term "shootfighting" which I'm sure still creates a large revenue from film titles etc.
At best this book is a beginner's guide, standing 6ft4" and 250 pounds I would hazard a guess that all of Vale's wins have been down to poor opponents, luck or Vale's size, this book doesn't teach any MMA/submission fans anything new and the bulk of this book is Vale going on about his history (he forgets to mention his defeat in Extreme Fighting 3 where he gets beaten senseless)
and the story of how he put Yoshiaki Fujiwara to sleep and how Fujiwara is known as the Master of Submission and had submitted Ken Shamrock with ease.
In closing this book is poor and if your new to MMA then try Inside the Lion's Den-The life and submission fighting system of Ken Shamrock.

The most credit I can Bart Vale is that he was smart enough to copyright the term "shootfighting",which must still generate large sums of money from film titles etc. At 6ft4" and 250 pounds I would hazard a guess that the fights that Vale have won have been down to poor opponents, luck or his size because this book is a beginners guide at best! There is nothing in this book that most MMA/Submission fans don't know.
The bulk of this book onesided view at Vale's history, the fights he won (he doesn't mention the Extreme Fighting match he had where he got beaten senseless, avalible on DVD)and he very quick to repeat the story about when he put Yoshiaki Fujiwara to sleep and how Fujiwara is known as "the Master of Submission" and had submitted Ken Shamrock with ease.
In closing I found this book useless, if you don't know submission fighting try Inside the Lion's Den-The life and submission fighting system of Ken Shamrock.

1.0 out of 5 stars BART VALE SHOOTFIGHTING, 16 Jan 2004
BART COMES ACROSS AS A WWF FIGHTER OF OLD TRYING TO SELL NHB. NOT A BOOK I WOULD TELL FIGHTERS TO READ, NEEDS HEAVERLY UPDATING. BUT NOT TAKING ANYTHING AWAY FROM THE HARD TRAINING JAPANESE SHOOT FIGHTERS.
