This is not a design pattern language book in the style of Gamma et al. It is instead a selection of modeling patterns designed to help modelers create clear and understandable UML models.

The book is well laid out, and structured into 3 sections.

The first section is a reasonably comprehensive UML overview. If you are new to the language I would recommend the Fowler book UML Distilled as a complementary language reference.

The next section provides the meat of the book covering a range of modeling patterns. Although, most of these will be familiar to experienced modelers, the clarity, structure and comment will be valuable to even the most advanced modelers.

The final section focuses on software design with a philosophical view to design.

If you are going to get one book on the UML get this one.
