Product Description

Product Description

First published in 1934, this is a tribute to the history and magic of Glastonbury and reference guide for those visiting the area. The famous legends are examined in detail, from Arthur, Merlin and Morgan Le Fay to the Holy Grail and mystic Avalon, a "gateway to the unseen".

About the Author

Fortune moved to Glastonbury in 1923 and formed a pilgrim centre known as the 'Chalice Orchard Club' along with a temple dedicated to the 'Mysteries of lsis' in West London known as the 'Belfry'. During her life, and since, she has received a large following. Many of her books are still read by occultists/neo-Pagans. Just after the World War II she was struck down with leukaemia and died at the age of 54. She is buried in Glastonbury, Somerset.

This little book covers all you need to know about Glastonbury's history, both factual and mythical, and does so in the most beautiful prose imaginable. Dion Fortune's use of English is sublime - I felt as if I was entering another world reading it. Her description of the road to Glastonbury was so evocative that I upped and drove there half way through it! I will read it again and again whenever I feel like transcending the daily grind.
