Product Description

Product Description

This book offers a crash course in the nature of reality. It is the story of Peter Russell's lifelong exploration into the nature of consciousness - how he went from being a strict atheist, studying mathematics and physics at Cambridge University, to realising a profound personal synthesis of the mystical and scientific. Integrating a deep knowledge of science with his own experiences of meditation, Russell arrives at a universe similar to that described by many mystics.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great effort to bring science and spirit together., 27 Mar 2007
By M. J. Kennewell "Mystic Eye" (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Yes. A good book. Mr Russell has gone out of his way to entertain even the most hard-headed materialistic skeptics among us to the idea of a universal spirit source, 'bridging the gap' between science and spirituality, so to speak. Both scientific and spiritual factors are well covered, with the bare essentials being laid out for us, rather than going 'down the rabbit-hole' of either too much quantumn physics, or spiritual dogma.
Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars mind-blowing, 20 April 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: From Science to God (Paperback)
I finished reading this book yesterday. Whilst being deep it is totally accessible. It is grounded in science and reason, yet is profound and beautiful. Peter Russell is the clearest writer on this subject that I have so far come across, This book will change you, whether you like it or not. But I am sure you'll like it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Trivial pursuit, 6 Oct 2004
The book by Peter Russel is about metaphysical trivialities and very superficial. In short, makes an ultra-simplified exposure of non-dualistic misticism comparable to that of pre-classic vedantic hinduism. The message is "your innermost being, your soul, your true self is not distinct from God, the universal ground of being. Thus each of us is also consubstancial to God". The insights about light vs. consciousness are inconsistent and one has the sensation that the author doesn't fully achieves his point with the comparison. The general spirit of the book is reminescent of "The Book" by Allan Watts, to wich it doesn't add much. I wonder if a good physicist was not lost and a poor mistic writer was gained.
