Product Description

Product Description
The Resiliency Advantage is the first book based in the emerging new "science" of resiliency.

It shows people in all occupations and circumstances how to become skilled at bouncing back quickly from setbacks, making difficult challenges turn out well, and converting misfortune into good fortune.

About the Author
Dr. Al Siebert (Portland, OR) is Director of The Resiliency Center and author of The Survivor Personality. He is an ex-paratrooper with a Ph.D. in psychology. He is internationally recognized for his research into the inner nature of highly resilient survivors. He is frequently quoted in books and articles, and has been interviewed on National Public Radio and OPRAH. His specialty is teaching how to be highly resilient in a world that is changing too fast.

5.0 out of 5 stars Antidote to stress, 14 Aug 2008
By Dr. Nicholas P. G. Davies (Halifax, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
For too long we have focused on stress, and the concepts of "risk" "safety" and "worry."

This book makes the great point that most humans are actually pretty resilient, and by and large they handle life's stresses pretty well. When you look at things this way round the person with "stress" usually turns out to have a temporary strain and to be otherwise managing well. If they can map over their abilities from other areas of their life they usually find they can find a way to handle their current strain.

If you want mental health it makes great sense to focus on how to build up your resilience rather than on the neurotic avoidance of stress.

This book is an excellent description of why resilience is so useful, and of ways to bolster it. I recommend it as an antidote for, and as a necessary balance to, concepts of stress.
