5.0 out of 5 stars Best structured Perl Book I've seen, 12 Jan 2005
By Frank Quinn (Northern Ireland) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Everything in this book is really well laid out and it truely is comprehensive. There is information in here which is well beyond the scope of the beginner, yet it builds itself from the ground up. Not to mention its really cheap!

My advice is not to buy this book if you're a newcomer to C - go learn C (or some other procedural program language) before you get this book if you haven't done so already. Not because it's so difficult to learn but because you should really have some sort of knowledge of good, optimal programming practice before you start coding.

Perl is a powerful language but allows for a lot of bad practice, so make sure you know a little about programming, stick "use strict;" at the top of your code, get ActivePerl if you insist on coding in Windows, and get coding!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great reference book, 1 Dec 1999
By A Customer
This is a great reference book with handy examples for each command. It isn't a book to try and learn Perl from scratch, but if you know it or are seeking to improve your Perl it's great. Nice section on debugging but could maybe do with more on OO style rogramming (a minor gripe!). All in all I'd recommend this book to anyone working with Perl.

5.0 out of 5 stars Will Wonders Never Cease?, 19 Aug 1999
By A Customer
The first Perl book I've seen that is truely great for beginners, great for people who are already Perl programmers, has a lot of example code, is a great reference, has a good reference section, and also seems to not leave any important details/sections out. The fact that it is very well organized/divided is definately a plus! Any person who wishes to learn Perl or have a great reference, MUST have this on their bookshelf.
