Product Description

From the Author
Very good book for an introduction to Oracle8
This book has been written for the 'Oracle Novice', it is aimed at the Home PC market. It allows the reader to build Oracle databases easily on their PC. It is the only book of it's kind on the market at the moment. If you want to earn more money then buy this book. Anyone who can even spell Oracle is now earning big bucks!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Good book, but very misleading on the CD contents., 18 May 1999
By A Customer
A very good follow-up book if you already know the rudiments of Oracle, but the covers do indicate that a copy (even if only a trial copy) of the Personal Oracle 8 application is on the CD-ROM. The wording on the book should be changed so as not to give this impression. I expect many copies of this book have been sold to people expecting to get a copy of Personal Oracle 8. Well done Mr Fieldhouse.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect, 21 Mar 1999
By A Customer
Very well written book. Though you have to have some beginning-level knowledge of Personal Oracle8 before you pick up this book. Some chapters are summarized because of the advanced nature of topic. However, they would make more sense if they might have been summarized more in general term, e.g., NCA chapter. In summary, this is an excellent source to learn Personal Oracle8 and then move to Enterprise Oracle.

1.0 out of 5 stars Description of the contents of the CD are untruthful, 19 Mar 1999
By A Customer
I'm having all kinds of difficulty installing "Personal Oracle8" (one of your books).

The instructions in the book for doing the install say simply to insert the CD and a menu will pop up leading me through the installation process. That is not what happens at all. In fact the chapter on installation is completly different from what I'm experiencing.

On the cover of the CD itself, it says to execute the "Install.exe", which I did. I did get a bunch of things installed on the computer, but none are useful at the moment. I don't have a windows group for Personal Oracle8. I do have something like 15 different setup*.exe files located in different folders.

Am I supposed to run each one individually? I tried running the setup.exe that is located in the ...\SQLStation\Station folder but it asks for The License Agreement for SQL-Station First Edition (found on the SoftWare License Agreement included with the distribution media). I have no idea where to find this.

Why isn't the installation process running the way that the book describes. Please advise me on what I'm doing wrong. I doesn't seem like the Personal Oracle8 software that comes with the book matches the book. Thanks. Graham
