5.0 out of 5 stars Tres fab buy it!, 23 Dec 1999
By A Customer
This book is miles better than any I've Looked at for explaining the basic concepts of Direct 3D (including "The Awesome Power of ...." which was critically lauded, but pants). If you are needing a book to explain the basic concepts of Direct 3D with no prior knowledge assumed (apart from C++). Then this is the book for you. The examples on the book are all stand alone, but once you understand the basics of how objects are placed into a virtual world, you can easily create any type of world you fancy.

Direct 3D is such a involved topic that certain things can't be explained such as Direct Input -Joystick stuff. MFC stuff Direct Play Direct sound etc. The book only deals with Direct 3D, and not the above topics. The book deals with Direct 3D in a easy understandable and clear manner. Top notch

3.0 out of 5 stars Useless, to be quite frank, 19 Sep 1999
By A Customer
This book is alright, but no more than that. The examples are, to be frank, quite useless. There is no examples that respond to keyboard input. Also, there is no chapter on putting the code into practice in a REAL WORLD example. All coded in MFC. MFC is brilliant, but crap for learning - you should learn it in Win32 first and then port it ...

5.0 out of 5 stars This book opens the door to state of the art programming!, 4 Sep 1999
By A Customer
I'm a final year student of Software Engineering at the University of Westminster, London , England. I have been using this book for my final project, and I can say that is is the best practical introduction to D3D ever! The examples are really good and even work fine in NT4. If you want to get into DirectX or D3D get this book. Honestly.

3.0 out of 5 stars The book is good, but it only teaches the basics of D3DRM.
