What a disappointment, 4 Dec 2007
If you are expecting a step-by-step guide to doing Gerson, then forget this book. It is wordy, boring, repetitive, contradictory, disorganised, chaotic and a thinly veiled eulogy of Dr. Gerson by an adoring daughter. It does not contain precise instructions for the juice ingredients, which ones to take when, what the diet should be in conjunction with the juicing and enemas. There is plenty of diet information and strictures on what not to do but it is generalised and, each time it crops up in the book, may not agree with the previous version. One is left feeling quite bewildered, confused and almost helpless! I say again, what a disappointment. I will buy the other Gerson books and report back

Improve your health - Not for the fainthearted, 21 Aug 2009
The Gerson Therapy by C. Gerson and M. Walker.
Unless you are very serious about improving your own health, the Gerson Therapy will strike you as wierd and extreme.
Modern Medicine and the pharmaceutical industry have done a good job trying to convince us that disease is about germs, and only they can help.
The fact is that you are responsible for your own health, and that sound nutrition and avoidance of environmental toxins (including all the products of the petrochemical, 'nutraceutical' (sic) and pharmaceutical industries) are essential if you wish to avoid the degenerative conditions which have increasingly afflicted mankind in the last decades.
You can't just blame the germs/viruses/prions or your genes and wait for a pill or shot from your doctor to make it all better, while eating junk and polluting your body.
This book is extreme. It has to be, because cancer represents an extreme failure of the body to identify and destroy cancer cells.
The book tells you how to give your body an extreme amount of nutritional support. In answer to the question, "How can I make sure I get all the nutrition I need to get better" the answer is "Organic fruit and vegetable juices" and a few supplements. All of this is explained in the book.
Then there is the problem of the 'cranky' coffee enemas. Unless you understand that the body has to be supported during extreme detoxification, and the liver particularly, you will baulk at coffee enemas. The fact is, if the body is too debilitated to stop cancer cells from growing, it isn't going to be up to detoxifying the waste products from the breakdown of a tumour without poisoning the liver, the major organ of detoxification.
Even if you did kill all the cancer cells in your body, if you couldn't metabolise and excrete the waste products of the breakdown, it would poison your liver and kill you.
Again this book explains the why and how of detoxification with coffee enemas.
If anyone pretends it is easy, or there is a quick fix, they are lying. It takes months of dedicated application.
Sound nutrition and detoxification. If you are up for it, this book will help you.
The Gerson Therapy is a whole and must be taken as a whole, it isn't a 'pick and mix' where you just take the bits you want, it is an entire metabolic program to support your body to the point where it starts to break down the cancer by itself.
Seeing that such a high percentage of us will be afflicted by cancer some time in our lives, it behoves us to understand the issues and take preventative steps. If you, or someone close to you already have cancer, this book will provide you with an alternative to the modern cut, poison, burn and dope approach. If you have seen loved ones cut up, poisoned by chemo and eventually killed by opiates and malnutrition, it doesn't seem that extreme or cranky.
In this context this book has provided a very useful service in making available the information necessary to make an informed choice.
