2.0 out of 5 stars A book that will lead to confusion if you are a beginner, 6 April 1999
By A Customer
This book does have some positive features. The writing style and layout. Well that's two! Unfortunately, one does not buy a programming book for its writing style. No, the main reason is to learn how to code. This book confuses the beginner by using irrelevant examples, often with mistakes in the accompanying explanations and diagrams. The final indictment is that I stopped programming in Java for some time after reading this book, and when I returned to it I felt the need for a better book. Apparently the author has done better with her other books. Please add a Government health warning to this book. Ms Lemay, please may I have my money back?

1.0 out of 5 stars A waste of 21 days and more, 25 Nov 1998
By A Customer
i do not find this book to be helpful. It is confusing and poorly organized. In addition, the sample code is full of errors.

2.0 out of 5 stars you can buy a better book, 7 April 1998
By A Customer
The last part of the book (3rd week) is not well written compared to the 1st and 2nd week. It brushes through topics without giving clean explanation, particularly for the 1st time java readers.

2.0 out of 5 stars Lots of pages, very few examples
This book is poorly organized and paced quite rapidly. I recommend a good background in C++ before attempting to wade through these exercises. Read more

2.0 out of 5 stars A great paperweight, but a mediocre introduction to Java.
The first 13 chapters offer a well-written introduction to the Java programming language. Unfortunately, there are more than 13 chapters left. Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars A great book that answers many questions about the language!
Unlike many Java programming books which rush right into coding, Teach Yourself Java 1.1 in 21 Days explains the fundamental concepts of Java itself. Read more
