Product Description
Going beyond the traditional engineering aspects of dam and canal construction, this book adds a previously neglected focus on populations of people, other animals, and vegetation dependent upon the water resources. The text connects aspects of history, geography, biology, sociology, economics, and politics in planning for the management of water resources. With its broad scope, this is a perfect textbook for courses on planning dam and water projects, aquatic ecology, and water resource planning.

From the Author
The title has been abbreviated, but the subject has not.We decided to shorten the title to "Sustainable Management of Dams and Waters" without modifying the book. The shorter title has more punch and may also be a bit more poetic. I would also like to mention that we made an enormous effort on graphics, and I think all river rats and dam lovers will find very useful charts and data for New England, especially for Boston Harbor and tributaries. We also propose a radical way of sustainably managing water pollution in Boston Harbor, with the goal of seeing the whales return to Massachusetts Bay.
