It's a good reference for beginners who want to start authoring scientific papers or presentations. However, it is in the beginners level and few topics cover subjects for experienced writers...In addition one has to wonder if you need to buy a beginners guide for such a huge price?

I first encountered this book over 20 years ago, when a German student who was writing a scientific paper in English lent it to me. Even as a non-scientist, I found it very interesting and informative. It has a very good index and a useful glossary and appendices. Also deals with related matters such as the Internet and computers (this 5th edition of 1998 still mentions dot matrix printers, so don't expect to find out about the latest laptops!) Definitely recommmended for the scientific reader and others, like translators, who have dealings with scientific papers
