3.0 out of 5 stars Close, but no cigar., 30 Jan 2001
This book is probably the best starting place in preparing yuorself for W2kPro MCP/MCSE exam, however it won't get you there on it's own.

To call it a 'training kit' is wide of the mark as it does not contain all the material you need. It does NOT cover all the required course material and there are NO practice exams. The CD only has a copy of the text in e-book format - no test exams, KB articles or anything else. You simply will not pass the exam without further study, I recommend you also get the ExamCram W2K book as well, ISBN: 1-57610-712-4 And, you simply won't pass without extensive hands on experience in a fault-finding environment.

3.0 out of 5 stars Above Average, 1 Sep 2000
By A Customer
I used this as my only prep for the exam; it was good enough - I passed. I agree with the other reviewer that some hands-on knowledge is important for the actual exam. Comparisons with Windows Help and Server Resource kit showed that is was consistent. Seemed to try and cover too much at times, almost a hands-on guide to features rather than training material.

3.0 out of 5 stars A WORD OF WARNING, 25 Jul 2000
By cragfen@talk21.com (Derby, England) - See all my reviews
Report from the microsoft website: "The windows 2000 exams will be virtually impossible to pass without previous experience". Take this as the word of god. I would give this book 5/5 as an excellant learning tool for the operating system. However the exam will give you the shock of your life. This book will only prepare you for the exam if you have real life troubleshooting experience to relate to it. Also the exam refferred to NT4 on several occasions so experience on NT4 is also needed. Every one of the 50 exam questions I got related to the operating system in a troubleshooting environment and not in a 'click by click' environment . I have now transferred to the NT4 mcse as I have no experience. If you want to play a cruel joke on somebody tell them that previous experience is not essential to attempt the exam, and then laugh in a devilish manner under your breath as you wave them goodbye into the exam room!

Not a bad read but it doesn't cover everything you need for the exam. I used it along with the Professional Resource Kit to fill in the missing bits. Read more
