From the Author
My body-image self-help book really does help! For 25 years, I've devoted my career to the scientific study of the Psychology of Physical Appearance--how our looks affect our lives. As a Clinical Psychologist and Professor at Old Dominion University, I've translated these years of science and insight into a therapy program to provide meaningful help to people whose quality of life is diminished by their dislike of their physical appearance. Recent statistics indicate that a "negative body image" describes about 50% of women and 25% of men. Our published research reveals that the program is effective--even when people carry it out all by themselves, without a therapist!
So, loathing your looks is needless misery. The pursuit of a positive body image by dieting, surgery, expensive clothes and cosmetics, and other "appearance-fixing" efforts may not solve the problem--your relationship with your looks. THE BODY IMAGE WORKBOOK is based on sound cognitive-behavioral principles and strategies for real change. In 8 steps and with 43 valuable Helpsheets, I guide you on your very personalized journey to a more positive and fulfilling relationship with the body that you live in. What you actually look like doesn't matter. Fat or thin, tall or short, able-bodied or not, you can learn to accept your body AND yourself!
And when you have completed THE BODY IMAGE WORKBOOK, I sincerely want you to e-mail me and tell me about your experiences and the changes that you have achieved.
