Product Description

Product Description

This book includes coverage of the Standard Template Library, one of the most significant additions to C++, and a topic you will have to master to be competitive in the C++ market. All the listings and examples use the new std namespace and in some of the more difficult areas, such as inheritance, the examples have been made more lucid and straight-forward. Also included is coverage of the latest object-oriented programming techniques such as UML, CRC cards and design patterns. TWG's C++ Primer Plus, Third edition makes understanding and experimenting with important object-oriented programming concepts like classes, inheritance, templates, and exceptions both interesting and manageable. It shows how to handle input and output, make programs perform repetitive tasks, manipulate data, hide information, use functions, and build flexible, easily modifiable programs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for beginners, and a reference for all, 6 Jun 2000
By A Customer
I bought this book to suppliment a C++ course, I have just passed the course with relative ease.

Overall the book gives good detail and is as good as a reference guide as it is reading from cover to cover. C++ is not the easiest language to learn and does need some commitment, by working through the chapters I found myself consistantly ahead of the course. This also meant that understanding pointers and OOP concept was not as difficult for me to grasp as it was for some of my collegues.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great guide and reference, 21 Jan 2000
By darren@techzone.fsnet.co.uk (Nottingham, England) - See all my reviews
For those wanting to learn the raw elements of C++ I can recommend this book very highly. I am new to C++ and am taking the subject part time at college. This book has enabled me to become well ahead of other students in the class, even those who are experienced in other languages.

C++ is a language that can be very confusing to the beginner, re-reading a chapter and using the revision exercises at the end of each chapter can be a great boost.

The book is prescise and meaningful and gets right down to the "nitty-gritty".

5.0 out of 5 stars A great book for beginners, 16 Feb 1999
By A Customer
I've been working with C++ for about 4 months now and must say this book is worlds above any other C++ book I have read so far. It covers topics thouroughly and clearly, and examples are easy to follow. I literally was able to read, and understand, file I/O after reading just 4 chapters of the book (and looking at pointers just a bit). My only regret is spending money on other books before I got this one. If you are just starting out buy this book NOW. You won't regret it.
