Product Description

Product Description
Windows NT Win32 API SuperBible is the perfect resource for programmers who want comprehensive, updated coverage of all Win32 APIs, as well as detailed information specific to the newest Windows NT functions. This book lets you look up the specific Win32 API call you need, when you need it. Concise descriptions detail what you need to know about every Win32 call, including new NT4 APIs. You'll quickly see how specific functions are used, modified, and integrated into larger applications. APIs are conveniently organized by purpose, so you can quickly find every API function available for a specific task. The chapters cover the crucial programming APIs for menus, scroll bars, clipboard, help files, MDI, GDI, dialog boxes, palettes, color-matching, DLLs, atoms, timers, and much more. Explanations of reusage syntax, parameters, possible pitfalls, and tips from the pros augment each reference entry. Summary projects also show you how to use the APIs in a practical context.

From the Author
Windows NT Win32 API Superbible overview
This book is an update of the Windows 95 Win32 API Bible which I wrote when Windows 95 was very new.

The Windows NT Win32 API Superbible covers new APIs that were not in the original Windows 95 book and also fixes the examples. Overall it is a cleaner book and more up to date with Windows NT4. It also incorporates many of the comments the readers provided on the Windows 95 book.

To get a more updated book on the Win32 API, this book is a must!

1.0 out of 5 stars I bought this book for the *NT* API but was disappointed, 25 Mar 1999
By A Customer
Now, an apology to Mr Simon. It really is an excellent book, and the despair that I've experienced may well not be his fault but ... The book is *not* about the Windows NT Win32 API. There's nothing about security, window stations, IO completion, the event log. Period. It *is* about the *common* (note that: *COMMON*) Win32 API. It has excellent descriptions of all of the common elements in a logical and helpful style. I'll reiterate : it *is* an excellent book but it bears precisely the same relationship to NT programming as Petzold's "Programming Windows" : necessary, but not sufficient. If you are looking for coverage of the *real* Windows NT Win32 API, this book isn't for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for VB and VC++ programmers, 17 May 1999
By A Customer
This book does have mistakes in some functions, but it is the most complete WIN32 ref I have seen. It is useful for the VB programmer, and for the VC++ programmer. I bought it right when it came out. I am buying another one because I gave my first one to a friend.

3.0 out of 5 stars A useful reference, but surprisingly lacking in some areas., 2 Feb 1999
By A Customer
Overall, this book provides the reader with a good reference to the basic Win32 API's, and I use it frequently in my work. The sample code is good overall, although I have found a few examples that are in error. The biggest disapointment, however, is that the book completely omits a reference section for the Windows messages -- something that was included in the old Windows 3.1 API Bible and should have been in this one as well.
