Review

"Bestseller. The paperback sleeper of the year."

Product Description

An anthology of 50 travel writers, journalists and novelists who tell their worst travel nightmares. It includes stories from people such as Isabel Allende who froze in a battered camper in Paris, Richard Harris under suspicion of smuggling a reptile on the Mexican-US border, Paul Theroux running off a hangover in Zambia, and Jeff Greenwald dunking into an electric bath in Tokyo. Royalties from the book are being donated to Oxfam.

2.0 out of 5 stars Been there, done that!, 25 Feb 1999
By A Customer
My expectations were quite high before reading this book. I was looking forward to verbose accounts of exhilarating trips. Unfortunately, many of the stories were poorly written (let alone the fact that many cities or landmarks were placed in the wrong countries giving the impression that the contributors did not put much effort into the writing). In addition, very few of the mishaps impressed me. I have already been there and done that! On the positive side, I can be comforted by the fact that some of the royalties of the book went to OXFAM + equally important, I have not missed much.

5.0 out of 5 stars I laughed aloud reading this book, 2 Nov 2000
By A Customer
and I don't laugh aloud often, especially not seated on a long distance aircraft when my fellow travellers are trying to sleep. Each writer has a different style, a different type of adventure. Some are funnier (to me) than others, but I'm sure everyone will find favourite tales in this book.
