Although meditation is considered a strictly mental activity, this book sets out to prove this idea wrong by showing that the link between most meditation techniques is the sitting posture itself. The book focuses on the physical practice of meditation and Johnson looks at the three main attributes of the meditation posture - alignment, relaxation and resilience. He shows how their harmonious relationship can generate a powerful catalytic effect on whatever meditation technique is used, whether it be Hindu, Christian, Jewish or Buddhist. Exercises are included at the end of each chapter, and the author covers not only the formal sitting practice but also the "informal practice" of applying the mechanics of meditation to everyday movements.
