5.0 out of 5 stars A fascinating journey, 2 Aug 2005
By Julie Graham (Peterborough, UK) - See all my reviews
A frank and honest account of his life, written as he spoke, so that as one reads the pages you feel he is sat their relating the story to you in person. A fascinating and sometimes very moving journey told with great humour. That will not only have you laughing out loud, but will also tug at your heartstrings The book was so hard to put down that I read it the weekend I received it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Read., 16 Oct 2005
I don't know when I enjoyed a book so much.I found it the most honest and open account of Howards life.I learnt a lot about him that I did not know and it confirmed a lot that I thought.
The photo's are realy nice and it is well presented. There was much in it to make me laugh and the final chapter by his widow Judy made me cry.The whole thing is written as though he were telling you the story himself and I found myself hearing his voice as I read it.I am fortunate to have a copy direct from the co-author signed by her and Judy. What a pity Howard never lived to see the book and sign it himself. I am sure he would have been proud of it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Searingly honest and great fun, 21 Dec 2005
By A Customer
I got a big surprise with this book - the surprise being it feels like Howard Keel is actually sitting beside you telling you his story. It's an interesting story of a quite literally larger-than-life man, who came from humble beginnings, scaled the heights, but never forgot the people who helped him along the way. He's honest and frank, especially when dealing with his divorces and bouts of heavy drinking, and he doesn't mince his words either. It seems so strange to actually read what one star thinks about another - normally petty differences and jealousies are either ignored or disregarded - but Howard Keel tells you why a certain person made him angry and what he did about it. He comes across as a nice man, but one who doesn't suffer fools gladly and also one who has a short fuse. However, this is tempered somewhat by great self depricating humour. He's searingly honest and discusses frankly his love life, drinking, likes and dislikes - along with his love of golf - and you really get a feel for the man. The last chapter, written by his wife Judy after Howard's death, will break your heart - her obvious love for him even after 30 odd years together still shines through.
