Product Description

Product Description

IBS is one of our nation's most untalked-about ailments, but millions of people - mostly women - suffer from the debilitating condition, one that must be controlled primarily through diet. Contrary to what may sufferers believe, eating for IBS does not mean deprivation, never going to restaurants, boring food, or an unhealthily limited diet. It does mean cutting out such trigger foods as red meat, dairy, most fats, caffeine, alcohol, and insoluble fiber. Heather Van Vorous, who has suffered from IBS since age 9 and gradually learned how to control her IBS symptoms through dietary modifications, collects here 175 recipes she has created over 20 years. IBS sufferers will be thrilled to discover that they can enjoy traditional homestyle cooking, ethnic foods, rich desserts, snacks, and party foods - and don't have to cook weird or special meals for themselves while their families follow a "normal" diet. Eating with IBS will forever revolutionize the way people with IBS eat - and live.

5.0 out of 5 stars Revolutionary diets with imagination and inspiration -WOW!, 29 Jan 2001
By mary.haslam@virgin.net (Sheffield,England) - See all my reviews
"Eating for IBS"gives a new revolutionary diet for managing Irritable Bowel disease. It also has dietary advice for sufferers of Lactose Intolerance,Chrohns disease,Ulcerative colitis and other digestive disorders. The basic strategy is to develop "a new way of eating and "a new way to live".All the recipes have a nutritional analysis per serving of calories, protein, carbohydrate and fat.The food ingredients do tend to be "Americanised"but I`m sure can be found or adapted if necessary.I like the explanation of speciality ingredients- mirin and pepitas. Some of my favourite recipes are- Jamaican Chicken with ginger chutney,Strawberry daiquiris, sweet Cinnamon,Zucchini bread and Cloud lemon Angel food cake.Recipes include beverages, snacks, breakfasts, breads, main courses mainly with chicken and lovely desserts. One bonus is a sample weeks menu to try whilst making your mind up what else to try.

It is a lovely book and the cover really says it all.It is a joy to use.The writer is a food writer specialising in recipes for people with bowel disorders. Thanks Heather

3.0 out of 5 stars IBS, 26 Oct 2002
This book is good however if you live in the UK you will have to adapt the ingrediants as they are very american! The information on IBS is very good, it answers many questions that people have and I understand the disorder more now. A good read just a shame the ingrediants are not easy to get hold of!
