5.0 out of 5 stars A book that leaves you wanting more!, 30 Oct 1998
By A Customer
I found myself in "Katie". Her character is so easy to relate to. It is an easy read, but very touching. All you want is more! It is really hard to put down this book, but to really understand "Katie", please read "Durable Goods" first. I read them the other way around. Just finished "Durable Goods" actually. They are both good books, and I have a new fav. author!

4.0 out of 5 stars Heart warming and emotional...., 5 Oct 2008
This review is from: Joy School (Paperback)
Elizabeth Berg's writing shows a great depth of understanding of how women think and feel. I recognised myself in Katie as I think most women will do, she portrays the confusion and awkwardness that most girls of that age experience. If you are anything like me you will find yourself laughing in some places and sad in others as you relate to what she is going through. You just want to get inside the book and tell her that 'it is ok, it won't always be so bad!'

I think that the relationship that she has with Jimmy was very touching and gave the book a very tender, sad aspect. All in all I feel that Berg has covered a whole catalogue of emotions and life experiences and you see Katie growing and blossoming as the story unfolds.

I will definitely be buying more of her books in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous!, 9 May 2005
This review is from: Joy School (Paperback)
I absolutely loved this book. It's a quick read, and deceptively simple, but extremely insightful and sensitive. Berg's portrayal of adolescence - the longing to belong, the intricacies of friendship, the intensity of crushes, fear and fascination of sex - is beautifully and realistically delineated. As are the bigger themes of death, conscience, and family that are intrinsic to the book's plot and characterisations. This is a real gem.

You find yourself listening to it. Katie speaks in a voice that can be confused with any teenaged female. The book speaks to you from you. Go listen to it!
