4.0 out of 5 stars Hard to find but worth looking for, 22 Aug 2004
By K. Hurst "Kate Hurst" (Lancashire, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I first tried to buy this book shortly after I saw the film. Finding out that it was out of print was just unbelievable - the film was made less than ten years ago and actually advertises this book at the end of the credits. I just can't understand why no one seemed particularly interested in promoting the book. The story follows that of the film more or less to the letter and it's a very enjoyable read. I wish there was some way of finding out a bit more about the true story that this book is based on.

4.0 out of 5 stars charming realisation of Welsh patroitism and village life, 18 Jun 2001
By A Customer
When two Englishmen arrive in the small village of Fynon Garw, the village is intrigued by what these two characters are up to!! It pans out that they are there to measure the local mountain and obtain weather its actually a mountain and not a hill. After some debate the two Englishmen pronounce it a hill to the amazement of the village folk. The village folk then pull out all the stops to ensure the Englishmen stay around as they amazingly raise the level of the hill to mountain status using raw courage, sweat and pride The story highlights Welsh village life and local characters. There is even a hint of romance as one of the Englishmen falls for a local darling!!

A truly lovely, story of passion and honesty set in the early part of the century.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read and a must see., 10 Jun 2007

I do not know which is the better, the film or the book. Both can be seen and read again and again. In reply to Kate Hurst, is it true or not. Well, shall I tell you...no, go to the following web site www.pentyrch.net/village/garth/ and find out. However, read the book and see the film before finding out, it makes all the more enjoyable.
