Synopsis

An extraordinarily beautiful and understanding compilation illuminates the tragedy of child loss - Over 50,000 hardback copies sold worldwide - An extraordinary compilation of poetry, excerpts from classic short stories, novels, biographies and autobiographies focusing on child death - Compiled from works by exceptional writers and thinkers: Raymond Carver, Joseph Campbell, Rabbi Harold Kushner, William Shakespeare, Albert Camus and others - Expresses universal themes of grief in heartfelt language and touching imagery - Many of the contributors are bereaved parents themselves ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: There are few, if any, events in life as traumatic, heart-wrenching and crushing as the death of a child. While nothing can mute the pain of such life-shattering loss, others who know this experience can help those suffering articulate the chaos of their feelings. A Broken Heart Still Beats is a remarkable compilation of poetry, fiction, and essays about the pain, stages of grief, and the coping and healing process that follow the death of one's child.

5.0 out of 5 stars In total empathy with me, 2 Aug 2005
By A Customer
A friend gave me this book as a gift after my daughter died from a brain tumour. When I get that pain in my "broken heart" or that kick in the stomach from the grief and loss, I will often pick it up and in the pages I know there are other parents out there who feel like I do and although I will never meet them face to face I feel we are connected through the loss of our children and I am comforted that I am not alone, what I am feeling is not wierd or strange and that I will live to fight another day..my heart will keep beating too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding & realistic book about sensitive subject matter., 14 Dec 1998
By A Customer
What a wonderful book! I have read several books within the last 3 years concerning child loss (I lost my 12 year old son Paul to a brain tumor in 1996) and each book seems to be another prescription on how to overcome grief. This book acknowledges the ongoing pain and makes one feel not so alone as it connects us with people through the ages who have experienced our loss. It is upliifting in many ways and yet very "nuts and bolts" about life, loss, and continuing on with life. Bravo!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars disappointing, 9 Sep 2002
By A Customer
I was disappointed to find that many of the accounts about grief included in the book were in fact based on fictional novels! However sensitive the writer, I do not wish to know how the loss of a child is perceived, I want to know how real people with real experience have worked through their grief following the loss of their child. I feel I have been deceived. The book was not helpful - it served only to depress me even further. It gave very little in the way of reassurance - I do not recommend the book for the newly bereaved, following the loss of a child.
