Should you judge a book by its cover...? YES!, 21 April 2001
The cover is well smart, and so is the entire book! As a graphic designer I'm pretty picky about my books...I was on the look-out for an HTML book that didn't just deal with the 'Anyone who can do HTML thinks they're a Designer!' nonsense, and to find a book that actually helps you to design websites. If you want to design and build a GREAT website this book is for you!! Ardith Ibanez is one of the most talented, accomplished designers in California and this shines through in the quality and knowledge of this book. The layout and design of the book itself is an absolute joy to the eye, it's logical and easy to follow, with high-quality images, screen shots and diagrams. With tips on colour, 'stunning typography', layout, tables, case studies on some brilliant exisitng websites, Mac and PC issues, layers, Javascript, CSS, interviews with accomplished designers, animation, moving backgrounds, Shockwave, DHTML, GIF/JPEG compression and how to harness it - WOW!!!! I have several huge chunky HTML books full of technical (and confusing) info yet I find myself turning to this book every time as it doesn't bombard you with 'you can do this, you can do that' and the 'blinking text' phenomenon but actually TEACHES you what makes a good website!! If I could give it more than 5 stars, I would!
