4.0 out of 5 stars An interesting journey into the collective psyche., 21 Feb 2001
By A Customer
In the first part of this book Ms.McArthur takes the reader through her notion of "commands & permissions" given to us by our parents. Her case histories are clearly for the professional, but her distillation of the effects can be a helpful tool for the lay person. In the second half of the book she becomes rather pedantic and academic making for a very cold read. I have used this book in my own practice and found patient response to her work very gratifying and helpful.
