The phonetic spelling assists greatly when ordering at a non-english speaking restaurant for instance. We also had our hotel staff in stitches laughing at some of the 'slang' or more real world phrases we used that are listed in the book, that rarely appear in phrase books. Could be particularly useful for women travelling alone in Italy where 'get lost' and 'drop dead' may come in handy..
