Product Description

Book Description

For the beginner through the programming expert, this new edition offers tips for the transition from Release 2 to 3. The book provides an introduction to Avenue; how to customize the ArcView interface; how to create, edit, and test scripts; how to produce hardcopy maps; how to integrate with other applications; and practical demonstrations and examples or programming code. --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

From the Publisher

From "AV Extension," vol. 0, no. 2, 1997
The appendices...are full of useful information...[T]he book comes with
a companion floppy disk (DOS 3-1/2 inch format) containing many of the
coding samples...[H]aving digital code supplied with the book is invaluable.
The book is not a manual, rather a guide... studying the examples
can be the most effective means of learning the language.

The audience of the book is anyone interested in programming in Avenue
who wants more than the documentation shipped with Arc/View...
In addition to the focus on application development and the digital
code on disk, there are enough differences in style and content
between ArcView GIS/Avenue Developers Guide and the ESRI documentation
that make this book a valuable addition to your Avenue
arsenal.

3.0 out of 5 stars A good book, which expands well on the ESRI documentation, 8 Mar 2001
By A Customer
This is a good book which expands well on the standard ESRI documentation. It covers all the area of avenue you need to get started. I would recommend this book to a beginner, but it would probably be of no use to an experienced programmer of the language.
