Good but by no means complete guide..., 2 Nov 2000
If you have imported the game to the UK, this guide will proove usefull, if not vital if you're struggling or in search of every event in the game.Craig Wessl and Mark H.Walker have produced a very well formatted and organised guide for a game which is easily one of the most non linear RPGs to date, and therefore one of the hardest RPGs to write an easy-to-use guide for. At first glance the event flow chart provided is not done too well, but the guides to activating and completing each and every event are superb, clearly explained with corresponding pictures. The order in which they're presented and the chapter system to which they're organised is not the only, or the best order to do them in however... That is really about what this guide is most useful, for people who want to know how to activate each event and get through the game, and it fulfills this role admirably. It is not thorough enough for those looking for a definitive and exhaustive guide however. Infact it's charts and stats merely scratch the contents of the game and it's explanations of the game's complex systems leave a lot to be desired. There are forging charts for weapons and equipment for every material, but the no tempering charts, one of the areas most in need of guidance. There are no golem charts for logic blocks or golem creation, and no egg locations for pet raising, or magic spells charts, but there are wonderfully definitive enemy charts that provide excellent profiles and information, and produce charts giving stat info. Most notably absent though are tech learning charts and a usefull guide to the landmake system, a large part of which success and secrets in the game is based upon. There are little secrets missing too, such as the demi-human pets. All in all, if you're struggling in this game, or simply can't work out how to activate the last few events, this is a wonderfully helpful guide. If you're looking for an perfect reference on how to master the game, it's a start, but still a long way from providing all the info you need. As a game guide it is good with little error, especially considering how tough Legend of Mana is to write a guide for with its complexities. BTW, special note should go to the extensive full colour maps and screenshots, they're very good quality and superbly produced.
