4.0 out of 5 stars Well worth a nibble, 9 Sep 2008
By Mrs. Virginia Cann - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Informative, comprehensive and full of quirky detail, this is a very useful intro to regional dishes and produce. It covers all of France in 190 pages, so inevitably it is only an overview but it is well researched, amusing and whets the appetite for delving deeper into the wonderful flavours of France. I have owned this book since the 1980's and still find it very useful as a reference for things like the market days in each departement or the local tasty pastry, wine or cheese. I don't know how up to date the latest edition is but happily rural France develops only slowly and hangs onto the good traditions of eating well, and these are well recorded even if Paris has changed a bit since 1984!
