Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Web Design in a Nutshell by the same author is something of a classic, with just the right blend of explanation, tips, and technical reference. This little 96-page guide is based on the longer book and provides a complete alphabetical list of the tags and attributes available in HTML 4.0. For each tag and attribute, there is an example of syntax, a compatibility list and a concise explanation. The compatibility list covers Netscape Navigator from versions 2.0 to 4.0, Internet Explorer from 2.0 to 5.0, WebTV, and Opera 3.0. This is ideal for hard-pressed Web authors with the difficult task of producing pages that behave properly with a variety of browsers.

The tag listing takes up most of the book, but there is also space for a list of tags grouped by function and tables of character entities and colours (character entities are special characters and symbols represented in HTML by names or numeric values). The colour table lists the 140 allowable colour names with their RGB values and hexadecimal equivalents, while also showing how each colour is represented (or misrepresented) on 8-bit systems. Most Web authors need a reference of this kind and this pocket-size book is one of the best ways to provide it. Note that this is not a tutorial and is only suitable if you work with HTML source code as well as visual design tools. This will not be your only book on HTML or Web design, but it will be one of the most used. --Tim Anderson

Review

"...this pocket reference is well worth the shelf space. Even better, prop it between your screen and speaker so it is immediately available when needed." - Andrew Cormack, News@UK, July --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Buy, 18 Nov 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: HTML Pocket Reference (Paperback)
This book is a must buy for all web designers. If your new to HTML then i would recommend first buying a book that will teach you all about HTML, or read a few online tutorials. But once you have mastered the basics then this book is a must.

The book is a small refernce book, as the title suggests, and has a complete listing of all tags and their attributes. This book is perfect for any budding web designer or the casual HTML user.

Its the only book that is always kept by the side of my computer, and i feel it should be by yours as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Concise, useful and devoid of pointless examples, 1 Sep 2000
By A Customer
If you simply need a reminder of all the tag and attribute codes in HTML, then this book is excellent. No wading through pages of how to use each tag, just what it does and the attributes it can have. Listings both alphabetically and grouped by use are especially good. A revelation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant little reference book., 30 Jun 2000
By A Customer
Brilliant reference for HTML tags and their attributes. Most of the book is taken up by the tag descriptions in alphabetical order, followed by a few tables listing non-alphanumeric characters and web-safe colours. Extremely useful, well set out and very compact. Much better than many larger format books if you want something purely for reference.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not enough detail about the attributes
This book, although yes does detail the TAGS, it lacks the full list of attributes and you end up having to look elsewhere. A more informative place was the internet.
