Synopsis

A reference guide to Perl programming language, this text pr ovides quick, organized access to the vast array of features in PERL, version 5. Perl - a language for easily manipulating text, files, and processes - has established itself as the UNIX programming tool of choice since its creation in the mid 1980s. The text provides a complete overview of the language, from variables to input and output, from flow control to regular expressions, from functions to document formats.

5.0 out of 5 stars Most useful Perl book a multilingual developer could ask for, 11 Oct 1999
By A Customer
If you are a multilingual programmer then this book makes life a whole lot easier. If I have to carry all the Perl, Java, HTML, JavaScript, Java and C++ books that I need with me every day then I will need a course in bodybuilding not Perl! This book is just right it jogs the memory just enough to help you remember the constructs used in Perl. Well now I just wish the someone would write a book like this for the other five languages I use!

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent guide for hackers - but not beginners, 28 Nov 2001

(REAL NAME)
This book is great, but make sure you know some perl before you buy it, as it is not in any way a tutorial.

5.0 out of 5 stars the most useful book I ever bought for my studies, 3 Aug 1999
By A Customer
I bought the Perl 5 Pocket Reference when I took a Perl 5 course. No book has been more (cost)effective in my study career than this. It looks very expensive for such a small book, but due to small character typesetting and telegramme style writing, a lot of content. Spectacles not included ;-)
