5.0 out of 5 stars The best book on the subject by far, 14 Jun 2002
This is sheer delight. Clement uses many short extracts from early christian writers to build up inspiring chapters on different fundamental themes. Though Clement is from the Orthodox church the writings here are from the earliest centuries before the big splits in the church - and a lot of it is before Christianity became the official religion of the Roman Empire - mainly before St Augustine. For this reason this material belongs to everyone - and it all seems frighteningly modern! It gives a good idea of what the earliest church thought like in a time when the New Testament was only a few years old!
read it and be refreshed and delighted!

5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant introduction to radical orthodox theology., 19 May 1999
By A Customer
This book provides both inspiration and challenge on every page. The author cleverly links extracts from the church fathers (and some mothers) with his own insightful commentary. The translations are crisp and fresh, the language swiftly taking the reader directly to the wisdom of the theologians of the early church.
