This is not a pure mystery novel; it mixes genres.
Thank your amazon for the chance to comment on the novel. I would simply like to add one point to what seems to be the gist of the marketing approach here and in bookstores. The paperback edition is being marketed as a mystery, but this is not a category mystery. It is a novel borrowing from several genres, including also historical, literary, and "true-crime" fiction. I don't think mystery readers will be disappointed, but I think readers looking for something more than genre mystery will find something here for them as well. I hope they all enjoy living in the seventeenth century for awhile as much as I did.

It is a shame that this well-writtne novel is shelved with the mysteries, because it deserves a wider audience. I began it looking for an entertainingg "whodunit", but I was quickly engrossed in the world of colonial New England, which the author describes like one who has lived there! The plot was good, but the setting was better, and best of all were the characters, whose personal and ethical problems grew from and gave me insight into their age.
