Product Description

Product Description
The Druids were the mystics philosophers and magicians of the ancient Celtic world. Their spirituality was born from their near-worship of poetry and music their warrior prowess and the world of nature. THE MYSTERIES OF DRUIDRY reveals this mystical romanticism as it was in ancient times and shows various ways to bring it to life today in both private and social realms. Thoroughly researched provocative and informative the book carries the reader back to the world of the Druids not just through Celtic mythology and traditional storytelling but through the author's own experiences of living and travelling in Ireland and visiting its sacred sites. THE MYSTERIES OF DRUIDRY combines a high-quality 'training manual' for modern spiritual Celts and Druids with an original and thought-provoking philosophical account of the spiritual meaning of Druidry. It includes: · A professionally researched survey of Druidic history tradition and customs · Detailed descriptions of the mysteries of Celtic spirituality including the Sacred Truth the Great Marriage the Hero's Journey and the Otherworld · Practical guidance for meditation and ceremony for individuals and for groups · The Celtic story of the creation of the world presented together with a plan for re-enacting the story in ritual and the remarkable side of Druidic spirituality.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Mysteries of Druidry, 20 May 2006
By Mr. Melvyn R. Lloyd (IRELAND) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This book is a chalice of Druid wisdom for such is the achievement of the author that it far surpasses any other book written on the subject of what it is to be a Druid and is well illustrated with drawings by Jane Brideson and photographs by the author.

The research is that of a learned person in truth for it is a well crafted document, that skilfully carries the reader's eye and interest from the very first page to the end.

This is a book that I highly recommend to those interested in the practise of Druids in particular for both the apprentice druid to use as a study and for the professed druid to gain further insights of their chosen path.

Melvyn Lloyd Ard Draoi of The Owl Grove & Founder of the Hibernian Order Of Druids.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't trust this New Age garbage!, 25 Dec 2008
By Mrs. J. Carpenter "Mr G Carpenter" (Birmingham, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Any book that carries with it the pretense of knowing with certainty what the Druids believed and practiced is not to be trusted. All the academic evidence points to only a select few Romans (e.g. Suetonius Paulinus, Julius Caesar) knowing anything about the Druids, and even then they were only a footnote in Rome's conquests and obviously not very important to them given the scant contemporary descriptions they gave of Druids. Therefore, any modern author that tries to give his or her vision of what Druidic practice was is at best deluded and at worst a charlatan. This book is just another in a long line of disingenuous money-grabs for rebellious teens who think the Druid concept is cool and want to become "instant Druids."
