4.0 out of 5 stars Typically Haynes, 24 Jun 2008
By Mr. J. HIGGINS "Joe" (Ireland) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I bought my first Haynes manual for my Rover 416i, the book is now covered in oil and grit....but thats good, its from plenty of use. The book really did assist me in every way and I would highly recommend any Haynes manual. I just purchased this title for my new BMW. However, I have read on alot of forums that the "Bentley" series of manuals are much much better, although they are quite expensive.

If you want a good deal on how to strip, rebuild, service etc. your car, I would recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Medium-Level Repair Handbook, 11 Jan 2005
This handbook provides an excellent reference for the home mechanic. The book covers from basic to medium-advanced maintenance and repair tasks. Most jobs are well explained although there is some detail lacking in some of the more difficult tasks. There are many photos, although more would have been helpful. Ideal for the novice mechanic.

3.0 out of 5 stars 3 Series - after 1992- the first of the less DIY friendly BMWs, 18 Sep 2009
By Mr. John Castle (Cotswolds) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This is the usual good Haynes manual but tries to cover the 3 series from the model which started the modern trend of electronic car management. Where the work is purely mechanical then the manual is as usual excellent. But venture into the electronics, like the engine immobiliser and the reader is advised to take the car to a dealer. Even if a fault code reader is used (it is not mentioned) there are no fault codes listed, and resetting the service indicator, which is a simple operation using a piece of wire and the test plug, is not covered. Finally the electrical wiring diagrams just show "black boxes" and are marked "typical" rather than specific to any model - so you might be unlucky.
Haynes have made the best of a difficult job in dealing with a car series which is not really maintainable by a DIY enthusiast.
