4.0 out of 5 stars A really good Part I of a two part story, 12 Jan 2006
By Kurt A. Johnson (North-Central Illinois, USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
When all of the speedsters except The Flash suddenly lose their superhuman speed, they begin looking for an explanation. Well, the explanation is heading their way, in the shape of a new super-villain, Savitar. Savitar literally worships the Speed Force, and does not want anyone else tapping its power. Wally West is in the hot seat, and he is going to have to use all of his intellect and talent if he is going to save himself and the other speedsters.

I must say that I am of two minds about this book. It has an exciting storyline, and keeps you on the edge of your seat, right up to the end. On the downside, however, the story leaps back and forth between the work of Oscar Jimenez and Humberto Ramos, and Ramos's anime style is not fitting to the story. Also, the simple fact that it does leap between two styles gives the story a discordant feel to it. The final insult is that this book ends in a cliff-hanger, and you must move on to The Flash: Race Against Time to see what happens next. (And believe me, you really need to do that!)

But, that said, this is a great Flash story, one that I am really glad that I read. So, I guess I would sum up by saying that this is a really good Part I of a two part story, one that any Flash fan will be glad to read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dead Heat : Dead Good, 11 Mar 2001
By pdf71@hotmail.com (Oxford, England) - See all my reviews
What Can I say?, Another triumph for Waid and co. Dead Heat sees Flash piited against someone who (at the time) could possibly be one of his deadliest foes... Savitar... and whats more Wally's allies are all being drained of there speed...so it's up to Wally to save the day...as usual Mark Waid sets up a good plot line here keeping the story moving at a fast and exhilirating pace through the chapters and culminating in a race to what could quite possibly be the end of the flash or maybe the beginning......... I would heartily reccomend this read for fans of the Flash and Waid and even if your not maybe this is the time to become one!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars not bad, 23 May 2003
By Mr. N. Shaikh - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Quite an interesting take... a villain with the same powers and better skill than the Flash. I only began reading flash around issue 95-100 (reprinted as Terminal Velocity graphic novel). This covers issues 109 onwards, with a deadly enemy from the past returning. He has his own cult of followers who wil do all they can to further their master's aim: to steal all the power of the Speed Force and master its secrets. Flash has gone a bit Star Wars with the mystical Speed Force, bit derivative. Exposition on mysterious Mercury Max is welcome (kind of an Obi wan kenobi figure) while teenager Impulse from the 30th century is not too irritating. Final showdown with Savitar is cool, but Terminal Velocity was better
