Lois & Clark, 10 Jun 2004
By A Customer
Perhaps one of the few adventures that doesn't see our bespectacled hero risk life and limb to save the innocent and his nearest and dearest...well, almost! What would a story be without finding the Man of Steel in the occasional life threatening, impossible to get-out of situation? The trials and tribulations of preparing for Lois and Clark's big day come courtesy of Dan Jurgens, responsible for many of the stories told in Titan paperbacks. And here, he is nothing less than consistently brilliant. Beginning with Lois finding her inner-self, Clark vulnerable without his powers, the two of them evidently parted after a lover's tiff, throw in a foiled drug smuggling operation... and we haven't even reached the bachelor/bachelorette party! Touches of humour occur throughout the adventure, especially around the wedding, are reminiscent of the popular TV series from the mid-nineties. In fact, did the writing team have the show in mind when drafting the story, seeing as it was published around the same time? Then their are the special guest appearances from some of Superman's friends and foes. Though the stand-out feature is the use of brazen colour and character drawings, making the whole atmosphere more upto date than in previous stories. Lois Lane in particular has never looked more stunningly life-like. Her gutsy persona is more apparent towards the story's finale, and what would it be without her and Clark finding themselves in each others' arms again? If you're searching for a different storyline for Superman, look no further. It's worth it.
